These portraits represent small-scale farmers as statuesque figures despite usually remaining anonymous to the consumers of their trendy local foods. Smaller paintings will accompany the portraits. These paintings will depict very common and grotesque happenings on the subject’s respective farms, i.e. a falcon devouring a baby chick, a chicken being slaughtered, and a pig giving birth, all to further the notion of local consumers’ distance and disconnect from food origins.
