As far as
This site-specific installation explores the relationship between the body and its surroundings, and how those surroundings affect the way the body moves and subsequently responds. Through varied sewing techniques and the utilization of cochineal dye, I play with ambiguities between formal landscapes, interior spaces, and the corporeal. The way the canvas is stitched, gathered, and folded allows for a wide variety of small, enclosed forms as well as larger inhabitable spaces that one can pass through or occupy. To navigate these spaces and the territory between them, viewers must contort their bodies by bending, twisting, and interacting with the forms—similar to the manipulation of the textiles. This one-to-one exchange between the viewers and the exhibition is determined by the viewers’ choices: whether or not they decide to interact with the space directly and, if so, how they go about doing it. Calling into question what it means to traverse through and dwell in enclosed and opened spaces, As far as blurs the delineation of the body and the world around it, revealing a symbiotic relationship between one’s existence and the world in which we live.
