Senior Highlights: Current Work from the Senior Seminar 2013
These acrylic works on clayboard panel take something very familiar to all—the human form—and make it alien through abstraction and simplification. It is through scanning the body with a slow and magnified eye that these works are born. The simplification of the subject matter gives them a duality that speaks to how the mind interprets lines and shapes. The emphasis on composition comes from my interest in Suprematism, but unlike that movement, I have chosen not to entirely forsake the representational, and instead retain some reference to the real world—specifically, the human figure.
