Bleedthrough

Everyday, our lives are in constant struggle between organic and digital worlds: we eat and breathe in the real world, and yet much of our life experiences our now siphoned through digital filters and gateways. As much as this contention can lead to more noise in life, there can also be parts that can elevate one’s life experience.
To try and visually portray this struggle of digital and organic, I am combining artistic techniques from both spectrums. I begin by creating inkblots on plain paper, and blowing the pooling ink into long and winding black tendrils. One the ink dries, and the papers warps as well, I scan the inkblots into Photoshop, and use digital processes to pull color and detail out of what was once a simple black and white image. I believe the details, decisions, and even mistakes that are formed when running an organically created piece through a digital filter showcase something intriguing and beautiful, and comments on the similar relationship between the digital and organic worlds in our real lives.
