Senior Moments: Selections from the Senior Seminar

My aim as a photographer is to demonstrate how easily ordinary instances in everyday life can instantly transform into something that seems to be of another world once removed from its original context. My images are focused around a specific subject matter and its interactions with others and its surrounding environment. In doing so, I intend to make the most basic occurrences appear as if they go in stark contrast with what actually was happening at that moment. I am fascinated with how once an image is and forever frozen in time, it can take on an entirely different meaning that corresponds to nothing in actuality. In my photographs I often include elements such as reflections, dramatic shadows, and tricks of the light to depict a sense of surreal humor in how showing how the very same thing in front of you can take on a whole new life when perceived behind a lens. In the end, what drives me to make photograph is the endless amusement that I get from watching creatures in their natural habitat. Although these fleeting moments are typically regarded as insignificant in the overall scheme of things, I feel as if I would have missed out on something had I not been present for these blips in reality.
