Visual Arts and The Center for Community Engaged Learning are pleased to present the second installment of the Words & Sounds series featuring poet Ama Birch.

Ama Birch is the author of "(Spirit)," "The Bird Trade," "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow," "Faces in the Clouds," "Sonnet Boom!," "Ferguson Interview Project," and a video game available for Android, "Space Quake by Ama Birch." She has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts Performance from the State University of New York at New Paltz and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the California Institute of the Arts.

Birch has been published by Grove Atlantic, Great Weather for MEDIA, Autonomedia, A Gathering of the Tribes, Vail/Vale, Vitrine, Insert Blanc Press, Live Mag!, Fell Swoop, Apricity, Belladonna* Collaborative, Spiral Editions, Columbia University, Luigi Ten Co., and The Brooklyn Rail.

Birch did a residency at the Atlantic Center of the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she recorded a spoken word album entitled "Fresh Pond Road." On September 21, 2023, Kathy Records released the album via streaming platforms. Birch has been awarded a New York City Arts Corps grant and a Creatives Rebuild New York Guaranteed Income grant. She lives and works in New York City.

Ama will be performing "Fresh Pond Road" and other poems from "Remember the Mespeatches Who Resided at the Bad Water Place," a collection of poems about Ridgewood, New York.

Snacks and refreshments will be served, and poem stickers will be available while supplies last.
