Title: Still Streaming
Visual Artist: Shelley Jordon
Sound Artist/Composer: Kurt Rohde
Curator: Lois Martin
Still Streaming will be a mixed media, site-specific installation in the Butler Gallery featuring the work of visual artist Shelley Jordon and composer Kurt Rohde. Jordon, a painter, began experimenting with embedding her gestural sketches and studies as “stills” into short films about a decade ago. In 2009, Rohde met Jordon at the American Academy in Rome, and began composing original music to accompany Jordon’s painterly animations; the results have been shown and won awards in museums and film festivals around the world. In recent years, their collaborations have expanded into multi-disciplinary installations that include still art, projected animations, and changing soundscapes. Still Streaming will explore watery themes (including swimming and dreams), and will feature both paintings and animations.
Both collaborators are teaching artists with distinguished resumes: Jordon (http://shelleyjordon.com) is a Professor of Art at Oregon State University; Rohde (http://kurtrohde.com) is a Professor of Composition and Theory in the Music Department at the University of California at Davis. Martin is an Adjunct Professor in Visual Arts at Fordham.
