Abby Goldstein: Statement
The reduction of complex information into simple basic shapes is the foundation my art making practice. I like to immerse myself in an environment, observe the landscape, collect data, and make drawings that examine and reflect the topography. I later use that research, along with visual memory, physical experience, and sketches, as I work in the studio. My decision-making process is often subliminal, meditative and organic; letting go of preconceived ideas and surrendering is fundamental. The challenge I set for myself is to deviate from the original plan: to go off the path and accept unanticipated twists and turns. The dread of not knowing and the thrill of finding is the satisfaction of the journey.
