The shaman Taiga treats the body as an altar and a temple. Through the rituals he performs, the body acts as a literal platform from which the sacred action can take place. The rituals, often times intense and physically and mentally demanding, seek to confirm his physical existence. The symbols and objects he creates are also a testament to the physical. As a whole, Taiga’s work aims to highlight the importance of the physical in a growing age of virtual reality. Taiga draws inspiration from his shamanistic forefathers Joseph Beuys and Matthew Barney.
